Smoke Free North West
is an initiative to support partnerships of
individuals and voluntary and statutory
organisations who aim to reduce the prevalence
of smoking and make North West public places and
workplaces smoke-free. It is led by the Regional
Tobacco Policy Manager based in the Department
of Health at Government Office for the North
West.
A Smoke Free North West Task
Force oversees the work of three North West
Tobacco Alliances who strengthen the
implementation of regional and national tobacco
control plans with organisations at a local
level:-
-
Cheshire and Merseyside
Tobacco Alliance
-
Greater Manchester Tobacco
Alliance
-
Smokefree
Cumbria and Lancashire Partnership
There are links with other
agencies that are actively participating in
tobacco control and improving health including
Trading Standards North West, Heart of Mersey
and North West Action on Smoking and
Health (NW ASH).
There are also two regional
networks focusing on the introduction of
smokefree settings in mental health care
services and in prisons. Smokefree North West
also includes networks of tobacco leads in each
of the 24 Primary Care Trusts and 46 Local
Authorities across the Region.
NHS North West
(Strategic Health Authority) works within the
Smoke Free North West programme to support the
development of the performance of NHS Stop
Smoking Services across the region.
