   Indications of Public Health in the English Regions 8: Alcohol  This eighth in a series of national reports produced for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) is on alcohol. It contains 36 different indicators of alcohol-related harm, health and behaviour across all nine English regions; with analysis of sub-regional inequalities where possible.    Alcohol Profile for the Liverpool City Region  The North West Public Health Observatory provided up-to-date, evidence-based research support to the Liverpool City Region Health is Wealth Commission, which was established to examine the growing gap between the City Region’s booming economic performance and its worsening public health status and to look at why this might be happening, and to make recommendations as to what might be done to help improve the situation. One of the Commission's key themes was alcohol, and so NWPHO produced this summary report profiling the impact of alcohol-related harm in the area to assist the Commission in producing such recommendations. The Commission's final report, which also contains an appendix produced by NWPHO on the general health of Liverpool City Region residents, is available at http://www.healthiswealthcommission.org.uk 22/09/2008

   Alcohol-attributable fractions for England  The most up-to-date review of the relationships between alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harms. This report examines the major causes of ill-health and mortality due to alcohol and determines what proportion of cases in England are caused by alcohol. Figures presented include the latest data for levels of hospital admission and number of deaths.  22/07/2008

   North West regional Health Profile  The North West regional Health Profile is an output from the third round of local Health Profiles that were released on 24 June 2008. These profiles contain new indicators as well as filling some of the indicator gaps that have previously existed. All indicators are compared to the England average and inequalities within areas are also shown. Health Profiles complement other sources of information available to local partnerships. The Public Health Observatories are working to incorporate national indicators, such as NHS Vital Signs, into local health intelligence. We have launched an online health profiler tool www.nwpho.org.uk/healthprofiler All national health profiles are available for download at www.healthprofiles.info, a newly launched website which also lets users create comparisons with other areas as well as maps and charts.    North West Children and Young People's Health Indicators  This report shows the picture of the health of 1.7 million children and young people in the North West by comparing the health and wellbeing of under-18s in local areas across the region against 50 different indicators. It is published alongside an online health profiler tool at www.nwph.net/cayphi which will enable local authorities, the NHS and other local agencies to use these indicators at a district level to identify and tackle their own local issues.  03/04/2008 
   Risky drinking in North West school children and its consequences: A study of fifteen and sixteen year olds  A study of 9,833 15-16 year old school children in the North West, examining relationships between risky drinking behaviours (binge drinking, frequent drinking, drinking in public places) and demographics, income, leisure activities and access to alcohol. Negative consequences of risky drinking such as violence and regretted sex are also investigated.  28/03/2008 
   North West Child Height & Weight Measurement 2007  This analysis of child overweight and obesity data has been produced by the North West Public Health Observatory on behalf of PCTs in the region in order to look at inequalities across deprivation quintiles and to produce Local Authority District measures of child obesity.  22/02/2008
