NHS Dental Epidemiology Programme (NHS DEP) for England
This programme has been commissioned to support the collection, analysis and dissemination of reliable and robust information on the oral health needs of local populations.
The North West Public Health Observatory (NWPHO), The Dental Observatory (TDO) and key stakeholders including the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (BASCD) are working together to generate intelligence to support a range of needs including World Class Commissioning.
2009/10 Survey work to support the Adult Dental Health Survey
Local Supplementary Surveys of Adult Sub-Groups are currently underway to provide data which will be comparable with the main ADHS data.
The protocol and questionnaires are available to download here. Training by The Dental Observatory for both clinical examiners and interviewer/recorders is required before local teams can undertake surveys of any of the specified adult sub-groups.
Data will be collated centrally, analysed in the Autumn and results will be available January 2011.

Proposed future surveys/actions for the National Dental Epidemiology Programme
2010/11 - Each SHA will be defining their own focus of dental epidemiological study during this year. Three core protocols will be made available by The Dental Observatory from here and the usual websites, should SHAs choose to select one of these approaches.
2011/12 - A survey of five year old children is planned as an update to the 2007/08 survey.
