About Us

Nine regional Public Health Teaching Networks were established in the autumn of 2006. The Networks are funded by the Department of Health until March 2009 and aim to:

  • Enhance the knowledge of everyone who can improve Public Health through the sphere of influence of their work

  • Create health promoting Universities and Colleges

Vision

The North West Public Health Teaching Network’s (NWPHTN) vision is to contribute to the development of a multidisciplinary public health workforce by building capacity and capability in all relevant agencies to improve health and reduce inequalities.

It will achieve this by:

  • working closely with stakeholders to identify all those who contribute to the broad agenda of public health for whom we need to provide appropriate and accessible teaching and learning

  • identifying learning needs and opportunities in the region

  • linking with education institutes to ensure that there is appropriate learning provision, knowledge transfer and research

  • highlighting curricula where public health has been incorporated and where there is potential for advanced provision

  • identifying additional courses where public health exposure is appropriate and encourage additions to curricula, knowledge and information management and opportunities for research

  • sharing good and best practice.

Activities are prioritised through a Steering Group with representation from the 3 sub-regional Public Health Networks, workforce and academia. Sue Powell co-ordinates activities and can be contacted via email sue.powell@manchester.nhs.uk or by phone 0161 2174329.
