This is
the first annual report produced by the North West Cancer
Intelligence Service (NWCIS) and covers the year 2007. The report
highlights important developments and achievements, and also the
challenges that the organisation faces.
NWCIS was
set up in April 2006 when the North Western and Merseyside and
Cheshire Cancer registries were combined into a single organisation.
In May 2007, the Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust took on the
role as host organisation for NWCIS.
2007 was
a year of considerable achievements. NWCIS was nominated as the lead
cancer registry for providing intelligence at the national level on
teenagers and young adults with cancer. NWCIS also published a
series of reports that highlighted the progress that has been made
in cancer in the North West but also the serious problems that are
still present in some parts of the Region.
